Plastic Surgery of the Face – PEELING

The proposition of peeling or abrasion procedures is to improve the skin of patients with acne sequela: multiple “pimples” that afflicted them, especially at adolescence, sometimes so aggressive that resulted in skin scarring.

Depending of the depth of these scars, better or less expressive results will be obtained by a peeling.

This “abrasion” can be mechanical (small apparatus with rotating sandpaper attached) or by laser beam, that burns the skin in calculated depths, or still by a chemical process in which a substance is applied and exfoliates the superficial layers of the skin (phenol, trichloroacetic acid or retinoid acid, this last one being milder).

Except for the retinoid acid, all processes have the possibilities of minor or major complications, such as hyperpigmentation, eventual scars, etc.

Since the processes are many and depend of each particular case, an extensive discussion between the patient and the doctor is highly recommended.
