FRACTURES OF THE FACIAL BONES
Fractures of the face, i.e. malar, jaw and maxillary fractures are under the
domain of plastic surgery.
They generally result from traumas, especially car accidents.
Although they should be assisted immediately, the operation for bone reduction
(position and fixation reposition) generally takes place on the fourth to the
eighth day after the accident, when the patient no longer runs the risk of other
complications and the edema (swelling) is already receding.
Each type of fracture has its own protocol and in cases of odontologic impairment,
the plastic surgeon will work together with a specialized team that will provide
him with the necessary support in this area.
It is important that the treatment commences before consolidation of the fragments
that are dislodged since, if not, the treatment will become more difficult and
the results more limited.
