BURNS

Burns are the greatest aggression imposed to the body tissue coverage (skin and mucosa).

During the acute phase (right after the first hours), burns interfere with the function of the organism, and depending on the depth and especially the extension, is life threatening.

The immediate treatment of any kind of burns should be conducted in a hospital, under the supervision of a skilled plastic surgeon and with the support of a clinical team and intensivists, if it is the case, working to safeguard the patient's life.

Regarding local treatment, it should be supervised from the first moment by the plastic surgeon that will apply the routine of adequate dressings and medication. This appropriate initial treatment will avoid infections and help in the quality of the scars.

The initial part of the treatment completed (first 30 days or longer if skin grafts are needed), massages begin and a waiting period is necessary for the onset of maturation of the remnant scars
After a few months the surgeon will evaluate what can be done to improve the residual scars of the 3rd degree burns areas, since 1st degree burns leave no scars, and 2nd degree burns, when deep, will leave light marks or skin color alterations.
