The Physician, the Science of Medicine and the Patient

We, doctors, have to render patients the maximum  possible information before we proceed with their treatment. Let us begin with this explanation.

It is necessary that is understood that a doctor and his patient are a binomial, where both should work in the same direction so that they may arrive together and successfully at the final objective: to provide the patient with the benefits he requested from us.

A doctor is the expert that has dedicated his life to the art of healing his fellow man. He is the expert that harbors the knowledge of science in its current state of development and that will apply this knowledge to the benefit of the patient that seeks it. One can define the doctor as a vector between science and the human being in need of it.

On the other hand, the patient that will receive the doctor’s knowledge, applied to his body and soul, is a fundamental part of the success of the treatment in which both are involved. He must be precise in relying all information required, have a favorable state of mind towards his healing, follow the doctor’s instructions to the letter, and above all, must be conscious of the limitations of the technique he is about to undergo.

The patient has to let go of all fantasies, of the results expected and dreamed about. Although dreams are necessary to remain young and hopeful, this is not a positive attitude when it leads him from been objective towards the operation. To dream, yes, for improvement, but trying to glimpse a result the closest possible to the reality of what the technique can achieve.

And this you can attain by asking the doctor as many questions as possible and receiving all the explanations desired. During  the physical examination, discuss each part of your body, object of the treatment and, if necessary, before a mirror.

And as a patient, be extremely applied when following the doctor's instructions. This will help decrease the possibility of undesirable results.

This is the way to prepare for this journey, where the doctor will lend all his knowledge to provide the benefits requested by the patient who seeks him.
